Located on Chabad Street, this synagogue was founded in 1858 as a center of study, worship and communion for JerusalemThe capital of Israel's Chabad community. Rabbi Moshe Segal z"l, a devotee of Chabad, entered the building shortly after the capture of the city in the Six Day War1967 Arab-Israeli War and slept here the first night to personally guard the building. As a matter of fact, Rav Segal lived alone in the newly recaptured Jewish Quarter for a year until his wife agreed to join him!
Although terribly desecrated during the 19 years of Jordanian occupation, it was the synagogue that suffered the least destruction thereby allowing it the honor of housing the first regular minyan in liberated JerusalemThe capital of Israel. Today it also houses
